The built-in video codec column only works for a small number of formats at the moment (e.g. AVI). We'll be improving that in the future.
For now, you can have columns which import the data from other places into Opus.

MediaInfo-based extended columns & commands v0.9, released on GitHub
This should be able to do it, since MediaInfo can definitely provide the information.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if ExifTool can also provide the information. It's more geared toward photos but can do some video things as well these days.

Icaros video information columns
Shows how to import columns from Icaros. I don't know if Icaros has a codec column, so this may or may not be useful.
-
Video length, dimensions, framerate, definition columns
Shows how to import columns from File Explorer generally. Although File Explorer doesn't seem to have a video codec column out of the box. If another tool has added one, it can be imported into Opus in the same way.
As I mentioned, the built-in column will handle this without anything extra in the future.
