View Pane Does Not Show PDFs

My older version of DO showed pdf's in the viewer pane. Upgraded to newest DO for Win 8.1, it will not show pdf's in viewer pane.

Thank you for your time

Nothing has changed in the way Opus views PDFs since just after Opus 10 was released a few years ago, so there difference will be in other changes to the machine (or differences between the two machines, if we're talking about two separate PCs or Windows installs).

Which PDF software have you installed to view PDFs?

Does PDF viewing work in Windows Explorer?

Using a new computer. Installed a registered ver of Opus 10. If I have the viewer pane displayed and I click (select) a .pdf file, nothing shows up in the viewer pane. Using Windows Explorer with a Preview pane displayed, nothing shows up in it either. Windows 8 comes with what it calls a 'ModernAp' that the system uses to view .pdf's called Reader. It is a full-screen app that gets ran from the stupid tiled screen Windows 8 calls the 'Start Screen'. I never go there!!!!!! If I double click on a .pdf in any file manager that full-screen app runs showing me the .pdf file.

In the past I always ran Adobe Reader, but using this gosh-awful Windows 8 system, when I surf the net for the free Adobe Reader, all I can find is the 'for purchase' software from Adobe.

Thank you for your time.

You can get Adobe Reader from get.adobe.com/reader/

There we go! Got it. Thank you so much. Now Opus shows pdf's in the viewer pane.

But.............

Had to do some major system cleaning the other day. Like I said, with Win 8's complete change of screen dynamics and what does what and when, I did my surf search and downloaded Adobe Reader and along with it came a malware called weDownload Manager. It rattled every web page with ads and re-directs. Even this forum had so many ads I had to scroll down 8 pages to read all posts!

I uninstalled Adobe Reader and installed MalwareBytes to get rid of it.

That is why I was so cautious about finding and installing Adobe Reader.

Thank you again.

Stardock's "Start8" is the single best thing you can buy for a Windows 8 machine (and it's only $5).

And it's a big step for me to recommend any Stardock product, I assure you
