Western Digital Passport Essential Briefly Disconnects

I just bought a Western Digital Passport Essential USB 2.0 external hard drive.

I am trying to copy data over to it using Directory Opus. But every few minutes it will briefly disconnect, then reconnect after about 10 or 15 seconds causing the copying process to be aborted.

If I use Explorer, I don't have this problem.

I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Just an updated bit of info:

If the drive sits idle without any copying being done, it doesn't disconnect.

Maybe try playing around with the copy buffer size and see if it affects it.

Is this the setting that you are talking about?

Settings > Preferences > File Operations > Copying Files > Miscellaneous

The buffer size is set to 64 Kb.

Yes, that's the setting. In the past some USB devices have worked better if it's set to a different size (smaller or larger).
