What can cause "failed internal integrity checks"?

Using 9.0.0.9 currently (and DOpus for many months now), for the first time I ran into this problem where DOpus would suddenly disappear, and about 10 seconds later a dialog would show saying "failed internal integrity checks" or similar. I would like to know what a likely cause would be for that, when there is definitely no spyware, virus, etc. present (like the dialog suggests as a possibility), nor disk corruption. Reinstalling DOpus did fix the problem, but I am curious as to what would have been a possible cause. I did happen to install the new Nero 8, as well as modify its installation, a little while before this started, so I wonder when something like this happens. (Windows quirks like that bother me. hehe)

Easily fixed by buying a legitimate version and not using pirated cracks.

Like I said, reinstalling DOpus did fix the problem. I just want to know what could be a cause for that particular dialog to appear.

As I said, that dialog appears when someone is not using a legitimate version of Opus. The disappearing after a short time is another classic symptom of a cracked Opus.

If you are adamant that everything is legit then something must have corrupted your installation - so I would check for viruses/trojans etc with something other than your normal AV program.

Well ok, thanks I guess, since you're saying that nothing other than corruption of the main .exe file (either by crack, virus, or disk anomaly) would cause that particular dialog to happen. Very strange then.

Remember this is not an official support channel. It's a users forum.

Given the extreme level of illegitimate use of Directory Opus if you are a genuine user who has purchased the product and you have such a problem as you report then the correct procedure is for you submit a formal support request to GPSoftware through the main GPSoft web site Support page.

That's the only way such issues can be resolved for you.

Have you preserved the "broken" file? Binary comparison could make you sure.

X.
Have you preserved the "broken" file? Binary comparison could make you sure.
Great suggestion, I will try that for sure if ever happens again. I was just wondering if there could be any other reason, such as a corrupt data file instead of .exe or .dll file, or perhaps a log became corrupt, or maybe even a shell extension could have done something (since I did just install Nero 8 a little bit before the problem arose). I'm just glad a simple reinstall of DOpus "cured" it (or maybe just a reboot would have).

Watch out for similar problems, also for another apps. Might be signs of flaky RAM (you may want to use software RAM tester), decaying hard drive (check SMART parameters; plug firmly signal cables), in case of older motherboards- end-of-life period (do your capacitors look OK?).

Or you just had a bad luck and DO's exe got damaged on disk. HDD's are pretty reliable, but such things are supposed to happen, despite all checksums and error correction codes.

X.

I have been a registered user of DOpus since 2003 and this morning had this error.

The reason this message came up for me was probably due to the power cut I had this morning while DOpus was initialising. A simple re-install resolved the problem.

At least it wasn't to OS that was corrupted!

The integrity check error message can also be caused by editing the DOpus internal icons.

Yes, that's correct. I did a quick test: I replaced the standard DOpus 9 Icon with the one in dopusrt.exe.

But why would one edit the internal icons? Almost all the icons can be customized by using Icon Sets posted here on the Forums....
