When you extract an archive, the folder appears instantly in the Lister, but the sorting doesn't kick in until you manually refresh the Lister. if I refresh the Lister the extracted folder will honor the sorting settings of that folder.
Do you have Preferences / File Operations / Copy Options / Sort newly created and copied files turned on?
Oh lord why haven't I seen that one before. It seems to sort now
