Word, Excel and PDF thumbnails in the lister pane

Hello, I have only been a registered Directory Opus user for about a week.
Even in such a short time I can see this is the best file manager available bar none.

I have one question however. I cannot get the thumbnail view to display Office DOC/XLS files or Acrobat PDF files. JPG, Tiff etc all display fine as thumbnails.

I can achieve thumbnails for all these file types using the Native Windows explorer and setting the view to 'Extra Large Icons' in explorer I can also have thumbnail displays of DWG files.

my operating system is Vista 32bit, I have Office 2007 installed and Acrobat 7 Pro as well as Autocad LT 2009

Thanks for any help

Best Regards

OK I've got this sorted now. I can see thumbnails of Word/Excel and PDF,DWG.

What was it you needed to change? Might help someone else who searches for the same problem.

Under Preferences 'Lister Display Modes' 'Thumbnails Mode' I had to check the box 'Use shell image extraction for formats Opus does not understand'

This gave me thumbnails for Word and Excel files as well as Autocad DWG, but not PDF.

I honestly cannot say what I did to fix PDF display, I was working within Acrobat and when I had finished and exited, Opus began displaying PDF thumbnails. As I said in my earlier post the Native Vista Explorer had always displayed these thumbnails.

Thanks!

I don't see thumbnails for Office 2007 documents.
I am using Windows XP and Office 2007, latest DOPUS.

Can we clarify what is meant to happen with DOPUS with respect to Office 2007 thumbnails?
i.e. Is DOPUS meant to be able to generate the preview thumbnails (it does in the prview pane)
If not, does the shell in XP do it?

Neither the shell nor Opus generate thumbnails for Office documents themselves; they both talk to Office (or whatever program, if any, has set itself as the handler for the document filetypes) if it offers to generate them.

Do you see thumbnails for the same files in Explorer? If not then they won't show in Opus either. If you do, though, you may just need to turn on the option mentioned above.

Opus (and the shell) do generate thumbnails for other filetypes, but Office documents always depend on some kind of shell extension, usually Office itself.

So Opus will show thumbnails if the shell does.
My shell does not.

However it appears that other people's do..can anybody advise in which circumstances the shell will do Office 2007 preview thumbnails? Is it simply that it doesn't on XP, and does in the later OS's, or is it something else?

Are there 3rd party shell thumbnail generators that
a) generate office 2007 thumbnails
b) people can recommend in general?

Does this link help?
