Word files blue screen after moving retitling Folder

This morning I decided to break an large unwieldy folder (which has many sub folders) into two main folders.
(In one of the titles I used the symbol & for "and"). (I have since taken that symbol out)

Odd things are now happening. When I go to open a word document--instead of the text coming up, I get a blue screen word screen. However, when I move the file to a different sub folder--sometimes (not always) the text will then come up. I've been trying various things such as recreating a main folder and moving the files--but when I move them with their sub folders--I seem to be moving the problem too.

It seems to be connected to the shortcuts. The shortcuts are now inactive, which I expected, but- the computer won't even let me delete some of these. The outdated shortcuts icon changes to what looks like some old Word icon.

I have gotten messages such as it doesn't recognize C drive etc.

I am not explaining this in as much detail. But my main question is -has anyone had problems when they have renamed and moved files in losing their data and can you offer any suggestions?

Thank you.

Melissa

Could you post some screenshot? Obviously you´re not talking about real Windows´ blue screens, so this would be helpful.

Hi,
I solved the problem and I will share because this might happen to other people It was an issue with how i was working with both Word and Opus, I think.
The issue with Word was that I sometimes write the titles for my files in the lister itself (which is quicker) and I had some titles which were too long. When you write it in the lister rather than do the more cumbersome "Save as" when you're in the file, there is no box which pops up to warn you if your file name is too long.
When this happens--the file appears to be lost. I open the file, but instead of a white page with my text (all my work! :frowning:), the Word ribbon comes up and there is a blue background--but no page. I finally figured out that I could correct this by simply shortening my title--and the text/proper file then came up.
However--it was an Opus Problem, too--or rather I am learning the limits of the flat view. I had some folders set up to about the 4th or 5th power before I finally got to the actual file. I think what happened because I had so much depth--the actual file name or pathway became, without my realizing it, too long. To solve this, I deleted some of the unnecessary Subfolders.
So in both cases the problem was a too long file pathway name. This took the better part of my day--but now I know.
As you might notice I write "long" and it's a constant challenge to keep those file names short. . .
