Almost all opened tabs became "empty tab" after a system reboot

I duno wth is going on with my DO, maybe I need to do a full reset or something.
Win 10 22H2
DO v13.9

Please look at this screenshot:

Almost all tabs I had open became "Empty Tab". Lost prob 95% of opened tabs. Literally didn't do anything but a system reboot. After reboot tabs became like this. Sigh.

Is there a file that contains all the opened tabs? Where is it located. Probably can't recover now but I'd like to know if there is such a thing.

I upgraded to v13 from 12 coz wanted to take advantage of the discounted price and didn't have enough time to test. I'm sorry to say this but starting to regret the decision... :\

The config file can depend on settings and how the window was opened, but is likely this one:

/dopuslocaldata/State Data/openlisters.oll

(Paste that into the path field and push return to have Opus locate the appropriate path for you.)

If you open that file in a text editor, it may reveal something about what happened, of you haven't rebooted again yet.

I was about to report this same behaviour and saw this thread. I have the same issue.

Unfortunately, I have shutdown and restarted before I saw this thread, so my openlisters.oll file is essentially empty:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<lister_layout flags="1" />

Cheers..

Ian

This has just happened to me again and I haven't restarted DOpus this time, but alas, my openlisters.oll file is void of any useful info, just having:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<lister_layout flags="1" />

The only thing that has happened is that yesterday, the laptop was running "standalone" and this session I have it hooked up to my Lenovo dock, which has 2 external drives connected to it (neither of which were populating the now 2 Empty Tab tabs that I have).

The update to the latest beta was done a few days ago was fine in the previous session, so feels that that can be discounted here, but it's increasingly frustrating that this appears to be somewhat frequent in 13.x as I leave the tabs open for a reason.

If openlisters.oll looks like that, it means no windows were open when Opus was last shut down (via File > Exit Directory Opus, or shutting down the PC).

It's likely opening the Default Lister instead in that case. Things that control what the Default Lister does are:

  • Preferences / Layouts and Styles / Default Lister (in particular, specifies whether the Default Lister is saved automatically or only when you explicitly say so).
  • Settings > Set Lister Defaults (to save the Default Lister explicitly).

Thanks for your response @Leo, appreciated.

I do indeed close lister windows when I shut the laptop down (I close all windows).

I wonder why this only seems to be happening since 13.x? I think I started my windows license with something like v8 maybe when I first realised it has been moved to WIndows (my first ever Dopus was 4.x on an A500 :slight_smile: ) and have exported and imported my configs across the upgrades ever since and for the most part, they haven't really changed, less for a couple of custom button changes over the years.

I did (do) have the Update default listed option selected in prefs which up until 13.x (and quite often, including 13.x.. it's very random as to when it fails), has worked flawlessly, and should retain the open tabs (and upon testing, if I disable that option, any new tabs open beyond what is saved as the default lister, don't get opened, as expected and they don't get added, at all).. so what I don't understand is why you end up with a bunch of tabs that report Empty Tab, as though it's attempted to load the tab, but couldn't find the path to open, or something and then you're just left with a ghost tab as such.

Is there something I can enable for debugging that would record opened/closed tabs and their paths so when it fails again (as unfortunately, I feel it will) that I can determine what should have been loaded and see if there's any kinda of pattern behind it (unfortunately I don't always remember what all the tabs were that were open when I closed it down)? There has to be a reason why DOpus thinks there should be a tab open but doesn't load the content for it?

I love DOpus (and miss it massively on my Ubuntu work laptop!) and would really like to be able to get to the bottom of this issue.. preferably by reliably reproducing the issue if I could.

Just an idea did you install over version 12?

I would suggest uninstalling Dopus and reinstalling it and try it with default settings if that works then it is your settings that is causing the fault. I haven't had the problem.
