as title, I keep having to go into formats dialog and turn this option back on again
(without saving the dialog of course otherwise it will be removed from automatic formats which I do not want)

More detail is needed for us to do anything here.
Is there a reason this is now in two threads instead of continuing the existing one?
The other thread seems to be a feature request, but this one seems to be a bug report, yet there's not much information about what's different or what you're doing or expecting vs what's happening instead.
- automatic formats on
- make sure there is no path format for test folder
- group folder
- collapse folder
- open folder format dialog and set 'Collapse all groups initially'
- click Apply
- close folder format dialog without saving - don't want to lose that automatic format
now if you press refresh it stays collapsed
- turn group off then on again
not collapsed and the setting that has been set in folder formats is now off.
Aaarrrggghhh! I can't resist anymore. Why do people insist on posting "dark" screenshots that are virtually unreadable?

When you turn off grouping, in clears the collapse all groups initially option.
Doesn't really involve automatic formats; you can see it has already happened if you go back into the Folder Format dialog after turning off grouping.
yes that is what is happening - would prefer it if it didn't clear this setting please.
