Bug, tags not found in Everything, when a label is applied on JPG files

In a previous post i had described the strange issue of two JPGs with tags, that weren't found by the ET search, while the tags were perfectly visible in the Meta Pane and in other places.

But the two JPGs had one thing in common, namely that they both have some color label applied (see below), which didn't rise any suspicion with me. Anyway, since that was the only difference to other images in the folder, i tested setting back both images to have no label, and sure enough, they now were found in Everything.

To make sure that this is the reason, i put the color labels back on, and now ET again wouldn't "see" the JPGs.

This really surprises me, as it doesn't seem related in any way, as far as i would have expected.

Is this a problem in Everything, or Opus? Does Opus itself still see the tags after they're applied?

Examples of "before" and "after" tagged image files would also be needed to understand what's going on.

Doesn't Everything (try to) read Opus ADS? Maybe there's a bug in its import routines.

Well, i would say, that it's rather on ETs side, but it must be related in some way to the labels being applied. Maybe i will prepare an example file later, as i'm busy at the moment, but if you have ET 1.5.0.1391a 64 Bit installed or in a VM, you could make a brief test, if that also happens on your side.

But i have made a test a minute ago, where i virtually can "toggle" the visibility in the Everything tags search, depending on if i have any random label turned on or off. Once it's on, it disappears from the finding list. The tags search i am using is like in the image below.

I could write a post in the ET forum later, if it is confirmed by other users here.

I can't confirm, looks alright here:

The .jpg is a very simple image, just converted from the .bmp.

If you can share one of your troublemakers, I can try here.

Before / After

And here should be the uploaded file itself (Caution! It's a screenshot of your own post, just to show that it happens with random and new files).

Forgot to ask, did you try the same thing with a color label applied?

Just the built-in "Red" like in the screenshot. Should I try a more complex version?

Yes, maybe the details matter. In the example above i have used a different color scheme, but similar. The same effect happens even with status icons. How did you apply your labels? Mine come from the "files and folders" context menu.

Yes, plain and simple:

Properties SETLABEL=Red

And if you try the exact same variation?

Properties SETLABEL !menu LABELCATEGORY raw:~(Status)

Certainly. I would just need the

/dopusdata\ConfigFiles\colorgroups.oxc

that goes with it

I PM-ed it to you.

:+1:

Thanks. As you can see, even these funky colors are no problem for Everything:

Maybe something in your filter settings makes the images disappear.

Not likely at all. I have no specific filter settings in ET (see my search filter screenshot above), and also don't see, what kind of tag related filter setting would be bothered by label colors or status icons in Opus. But i see that i can literelly switch between the two states found/not found by actvating color labels. Some special debugger would be helpful here .

Isn't it set to "Tags"? Or am I misinterpreting the screenshot?

Yes, it is.

I meant that i only use some simple tag:search: code inside the tag search, and no other elements like !F: or ext:xyz and so on. So that no further filter element could mess around with the ability to find the tags.

It's a mistery. :face_with_monocle:

@abr, can you post an example here or via PM? I've a clue of what might be the cause.

Done.

(Per PM. It's a JPG plus test tag)

Thanks!
