I don't know anything about replicating features of Explorer in XP, nor am I sure that I know much about your last chosen format not being kept, but you may want to look at the folder formats FAQ Folder Formats: Quick Guide .
It's also possible (I'm not sure) that Settings -> Preferences -> Launching Opus -> Default Lister -> Ignore folder format of Default Lister may be relevant.
