Convert image: How to apply size to longer or shorter side?

In the converting tool I cannot find an option to apply a size to the longer or shorter side. I. e. when I choose "longer side" the size is applied to the x side when the image is in landscape format and when it is in portrait format it is applied to the y side. Did I overlook such option? Without this feature the size of one format is always too small.
Faststone and JPG-Illuminator do this in an ideal manner.

No, I think it doesn't exist.

You could sort the images by Aspect Ratio and resize them in two batches.

Specify a square size and the image will be resized to fit within the square, which I think achieves what you’re aiming for. Whichever dimension is largest will be the size of the square, and the smaller dimension will be scaled down proportionally.

I see, that seems to be a fine solution, thanks for this hint.
Gonna test it later.

Tested and is working fine, thanks again.
Now I encounter another issue: I intend to scale the images to a smaller size for use in the web and the format jpg is the same for source and destination. Unfortunately the checkbox "Save images to destination folder" is not active or grayed out. My first thought: Filter the converted images and move them. However when searching for "1024" which is the size I had chosen and which the filename contains, I do not get any results. Why is this and how to handle it?

Either there was no destination file display when the command was launched, or the command has the "HERE" argument included which makes it write changes to the source folder.

Please show a screenshot of exactly what you're doing.

I read that thread already, however the solution was not applicable as I operate the resizing procedure from the GUI.

Regarding filtering or searching, I'm gonna provide the screenshot later.

Not sure which thread you mean, but the command's arguments, as well as the situation it is launched from, can influence which options are available in the GUI that the command opens.

Sorry, I assumed that you referred to this thread:

I understood the second posting that way that the questioner is resizing the images by calling Dir. Opus on the command line.

Regarding the filtering issue, this is my folder's content without filtering:

There are several file names containing the text "1024".

However when filtering by "1024" no results are being displayed:

That's the Windows Search field. What it matches is up to Windows Search, and you may need some wildcards around the pattern.

Instead of using that, type a * character (i.e. Shift+8) and use Opus's filtering, which will also be faster as it filters the list of files that are already displayed.

(You may also need to turn on partial matching for the Filter Bar, under Preferences / File Displays / FAYT and Filter Bar Options, although it should be on by default.)

Hi Leo,
this solution works fine, thank you. However, that search input doesn't open reliably. I'm always unsure where I have to click inside the lister before.

The file display should be active (i.e. have keyboard focus) when you push the key.

I use it several times a day and have never had it not open, except in special folders where it isn't supported at all (e.g. Recycle Bin).

You could turn the Filter Bar to always be displayed:

Preferences / File Displays / FAYT and Filter Bar Options / Display Filter Bar: Always

That's great, thanks for this hint!
