Creating folders based on image shooting time

Hi guys,

I have a single folder containing thousands of photos taken with a digital camera which I need to sort into folder based on the shotting time.

For each photo I need to create a folder in the format YYYYMMDD and move all photos taken on that particular date to the relevent folder. Is this possible...?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Curiously the month format has to be in upper case... why is this...?

Because lowercase m means minutes rather than months. Same in the Windows locale control panel, etc.
