@errante - Any chance you could try the following, if you have the time (or inclination) ?
Did you have 1.4 installed (or 1.4 portable) before 1.5, or was 1.5 install/portable fresh ?
Did you use the Everything installer, or did you just extract the Everything portable zip to a folder ?
What is your alpha_instance setting ?
3a. Can you post screenshots of your Everything Options > General and Indexes page ?
3b. Can you post your "Everything-1.5a.ini" settings file (redact anything confidential and zip it)
Maybe make a system backup in case before this request, in case it stops working for you ), Could you uninstall Opus + Everything (disable auto-start and service options before), reboot, then re-install both and check if still working, then post your steps here ?
I had v1.4 but portable. 1.5 is also the portable version, so it can be considered a fresh installation.

Not really needed in this scenario. Only relevant in that is the alpha instance setting
As a sidenote, I noticed that if Everything starts after DOpus, sometimes you have to restart DOpus to make the folder calculation to work (or that option in config being recognized)
I assume your ini file for v1.5 is called Everything-1.5a.ini and is in the same place as the exe right?
If you still have the Everything.ini file from v1.4, you can try putting it in the same folder as your current v1.5 ini (it wouldn't replace it). Restart DOpus and tell us if the calc folders size option is now available.
At the moment it's hard to determine what's going wrong. Working on trying to go through it more methodically.
When viewing my D: partition, it does seem to use ET, or Opus has improved folder sizing speed on it's own, as alluded to by @Leo in another post (just checked Opus Cache folder sizes disabled. Refreshed lister, F5, and sizes and instantly updated)
It does seem like either Opus or Everything is not behaving properly - my bet's on Opus ATM (maybe a bit of both - it's hard to tell - hence trying to go through it more methodically - get back to you on that), although I don't know what's going on under the hood.
@errante - Thanks for info. I'm going from fresh Win1022H2 latest ISO windows installation, and am trying to get reproducible steps. I have noticed oddities though in how Opus indicates ET existence, depending on part of Opus you're in.
Same for me with testing - extract Everything64.exe from Everything-1.5.0.1358a.x64.zip.and run with default. Install. 14 initially, then 1.5, or 1.5 straight-off. Haven't found the pattern yet.
Get back to you about other stuff as it's late but hope to nail the problem down at some point.
@WKen the second screenshot is from the Task Manager? Because if so, it would appear that you are running 2 Everything services.
Sidenote: Accompanying your screenshots with a bit of context doesn't hurt, so we avoid misinterpretations.
@WKen did you check that Ev v1.4 running as a service works fine with DOpus?
What I would try in your case, if I really need to run Everything as a service.
First check that Everything is not running multiple services.
Close Everything v1.5, making sure that the service is no longer running.
Open v1.4 as a service. In the Services tab of the Task Manager, note the name of the service that Everything uses.
Close v1.4 completely, making sure that the service is no longer running.
Change the service_pipe_name entry in the v1.5 ini to \.\PIPE\Everything_Service. Where Everything_Service is the last annotated name
Open Everything v1.5 and make sure that the service name is the one we used in the previous step.
Exit DOpus completely and reopen it to check if it works.
If that doesn't work:
Completely close v1.5, making sure that the service is no longer running.
Change in the v1.5 ini the service_pipe_name entry to its default value.
Create an empty file called NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE in the same location as your Everything executable.
Run Everything. You should notice that Everything now no longer uses the 1.5a suffix for the ini (it will use Everything.ini from now on), for the database and for the service.
Exit DOpus completely and reopen it to check if it works.
Note that by doing this:
In tests some time ago, doing this 'broke' the folder size calculation with Everything. I don't know how it works now and when running as a service.
Everything will create a new ini, so you will have to reconfigure it from scratch again (you can copy values from your old ini with the 1.5a suffix).
If that doesn't work:
Weighing the cost-benefit of running Everything as a service
When I use the global/local everything search (+/-), I get a very limited time to complete the search. If I press + then do nothing, I get the full 5 second timeout, but once I've entered a few characters, a pause for event less than a second causes the search bar goes away.
Interestingly if the search matches nothing, it acts like an incremental search, but as soon as it matches even a single item it populates the lister and removes the search bar.
Sometimes it goes away so fast, if I press backspace a couple of times, the first edits the expression, then the next causes the lister to navigate backward.
In your Everything settings, you can define a search delay, which is by default set to 250ms or so (under > general > search functions). So you could try to set a much higher value, like a few seconds, to see, if it gives you enough time to finish your input.
I see that as well, although I hadn't noticed it before now (I don't use it often; tend to use the search field instead). If you stop to think between typing, it can start the search and close as the results come in.
Maybe it should stay open until you push return or it loses focus, similar to the Filter Bar. You'll often need to refine your search after seeing the results.
I'm a fan of FAYT hotkeys, but I'll try the search field.
I like how I can use F3 to select the search field and F4 to select the search type. but.... Is it at all possible to have F3 activate the search in "Everthing" and , say Shift F3? to activate the search in "Global Everything"? Manually switching is a touch painful compared to '+/-' for FAYT global/local search.
