Hi, I don't know under what topic I could ask this. Is there a way to "freeze column from here" instead of "freeze columns to here"? Some files I get have really long names. Freezing everything after the name column would allow me to horizontally scroll through the file names. Maybe the feature is already there but I cannot seem to find it.
So you just want the Name column to have a maximum width? You can do that in a few different ways, but the simplest is to turn off auto-size for that column (from the main window, Folder > Folder Format).
For more detail:
The top of that explains how to make those changes become your new default for all folders. At the bottom of the post, there's a video about different column resizing modes.
(A couple of things in the video have changed slightly in Opus 13: "Folder > Folder Options" is now "Folder Format". And the "Save" button in the folder format dialog is at the bottom instead of the top now. There's also a new Settings > Set Lister Defaults which for a simplified way of saving the changes.)
Hey Leo,
I already have a fixed width for the name column. I meant the new option in DO 13:
Is there a way to reverse the "freezing" so that like in the picture everything after the name column gets frozen so that I can only scroll through the name column?
Or did I misunderstand something?
I think you cannot reverse the freezing, but I agree.. I would like to freeze the right hand side as well.
That, with a new option to set a Min-Width for the name column, combined with all the other options like "Collapse" could get us near perfect?! o)
Kind of interesting, so many things were added for handling and setting up columns, and still it is not exactly working as I would think it could. At least I find myself doing the "aaarg" and then moving separators and column borders around to eventually see what I need to look at.
Not all the time of course, but for some reason you still need to fight the current column layout quite often. o)
