How to change icon for favorites shortcuts to SMB folders?

Hello, dear support team.
I can't figure out how can I change icons for favorites shortcuts to CIFS/SMB folders?

Folder icons (including when they're displayed as favorites) come from Windows.

I don't think Windows supports customizing the icons of network folders. (Probably for performance reasons. Maybe also because the icon path on one machine may not work on another, unless the icon had to be stored within the folder itself.)

You may be able to manually create a desktop.ini file but I am not sure if Windows looks for them on network drives. It also reportedly does not work if the other end is a Linux server. There's some discussion here:

Old windows (XP-8.1) were able to put just regular shortcuts to favorites.
That's the ideal solution. When you create basic windows shortcut, you can chose any icon and it doesn't matter if for remote folder of windows, Linux or mac.
For me basically the only reason for replacing win 10 explorer was new quick access pane, that's was not only incapable to do custom icons but also custom names.
Here favorites pane allows to do any name, but only partially is able to customize icons (only for local folders). And this is the BIGGEST and almost only shortcoming of Directory Opus.

You could make your own menu of buttons which to go folders using completely custom icons, if that would be a useful alternative. Just drag the folders to a toolbar or menu (while in Settings > Customize Toolbars mode) to create the buttons, then edit any detail of them you need to change.

To be honest it's not a good alternative because it's already rooted habit to use left favorites pane for shortcuts

It is most desirable feature for new version, please consider to add ability to change icons for favorites links. It's the greatest drawback of Directory Opus.
