How to consistently sort folders in alphanumeric order, but files in date order

Something so simple, and I'm a long-time DO user. I stuck with version 12, but had to re-install on a new PC I recently set up. I looked in several parts of Preferences, tried changing various things. I'm missing some important step. What I want is so simple. Oh yeah, and the only columns I want are name, size, and date modified. No Attr, no Type.

Folder Format > Sorting is where the option is.

Leo, thanks. Can you guide me a little more. When I go to Folder Format, I see lots of options (remember I'm in version 12). I don't see a way to set a standard sort order and specify the columns I want for everything. I see lot of options...
