Just recently updated from 13.7 to 13.11, and noticed that now when cursor is hovering on video thumbnail is not loaded, simply icon is shown.
Once you move cursor away and back on spot, icon gets loaded.
Based on how it feels, regular mp4 and with common codecs more often can load in time, while some different ones result in non-loaded image.
Does this mean that some regression took place here, previously image was loading despite delays even if it took much time, but now there is limit during which it should do such thing?
Are you sure you waited long enough after the first hover? The text will appear first, while the thumbnail is requested in the background. Once the thumbnail is ready, it's displayed.
Uncached video thumbnails can take a few seconds to generate sometimes. (Depending on the format, how the video is encoded, and the software doing the decoding. The decoding software isn't part of Opus and will normally be the same components File Explorer uses for video thumbnails.)
Hmm, now I cannot reproduce it anymore. Maybe hard drive was loaded, and generation took too long me to wait.
Waiting for few seconds meant for me, that something could be wrong and to thumb will be shown.
This need more observation on my end.
I would say in certain cases InfoTip does not show image, and if you wait long enough, entire tip gets hidden.
That means the thumbnail request is failing sometimes. Not sure why that would happen unless something else (e.g. a media scanner/indexer) is locking the same files for a moment or the video codec that handling the files has a bug (but that'd usually affect thumbnails mode as well).
Surely, can live with it, but strange that it occurred somehow recently.
Because I quite often use this hover thing, and previously it wasn't happening.
Will keep eye on it, maybe something additional will be noticed over time.
