Is that too Hard too rearrange Metadata Pane fields from row to column?

This is One of my very old want since Opus v 12. when the update 13 come it's very disappoint me There is no change in metadata pane.

I just want rearrange Metadata Pane fields from row to column as like file display
Is that too hard to do so dear @Leo @Jon @lxp

For me it's next to impossible

But I think it's on the list, so all we need is a bit of patience. And aren't there plenty of other new features to enjoy while sitting in the waiting room?

That would be a lot of horizontal scrolling, which isn't that ergonomic.

yes yes I'm on patience from version 12

I have no problem with lot of horizontal scrolling Please Put this job on your development list, It's my humble request please      please     :pray:please

Not necessarily. If the display were organized like a lister with the user able to select WHICH metadata items appear and also change the display order, then there may only be a few parameters which need to be displayed. That also suggests the ability to sort on a column - again like in a lister. I am NOT personally interested in having this feature, just suggesting that it CAN be implemented - possibly using logic similar to what may already exist.

The file display is arranged that way because it shows multiple files/folders and multiple pieces of metadata for each one.

The metadata panel only shows one value for each piece of metadata, either for a single item or multiple items (but combined into a single cell).

Transposing that view would end up with something quite bizarre and unusable, as it’d be 2 rows high and about 30 screens wide. I don’t understand this idea at all, sorry. Maybe I’ve misinterpreted what’s being asked for.

I am not talking about the CURRENT metadata panel. I think the OP wants a display LIKE a lister where there are rows of file names and for each there are selected metadata values. Like in a normal lister there is a row with the file name, size, modified date, etc. I think the OP wants rows of file names. In each row, following the file name, would be selected items from the file metadata. This could also be accomplished by using the current lister, but expanding the list of items that can appear in the columns from things like file size, etc, to also include applicable metadata items (for a photo file that might include: Date Taken, Resolution, etc. I could be wrong about what the OP is asking, but that is how I imagined his request.

I think the OP's request is about having the metadata pane displayed like a data grid (which yes, would be kind of confusing), not about being able to choose which fields to show or hide, or changing their order.
This (and what you suggested) could probably be done with a script. Even better, it might be improved with a new control, like an actual Data Grid control.

@khalidhosain A visual example would be helpful to better understand your request. As it stands, I'm not sure what you're after.

This CAN be achieved with current lister : you just need to choose the proper columns to display.
What can not be done like that, is having the metadata modifiable in the lister. For that, you need to rely on the metadata pane. That's the reason why OP asks for the metadata pane.

Personally, I don't see the point of having dozens of fields editable by columns. Metadata pane is fine for my usage.

Yes, I agree. I seldom have a need for that. But maybe the OP does have a reason. I only use a fraction of the features in DOPUS, so I may not be aware of some features. Occasionally I may want to change the Date Taken field in a group of photos. Maybe that is doable without new DOPUS functionality. The few times I needed to do something that was not in DOPUS, I got help
from Leo creating a script that works well to do what I needed.

Thank you so much guys for your valuable comments. Now I am post from my phone when I am on my PC then I will try to give some visual example what I want.

I want to achieve to edit make a data of my music files.

  1. The fields I want to edit title, artist, album artist, composer, album, year, genre publisher copyright. Etc of selected music files.
  2. I want all the fields in column. And I want power to customize which column should be displayed and which are not and have power to customise the order of the column as like file display.
  3. The behaviour of the metadata panel should be as it is that means if I select two files with two different artist name then the metal data panel need not to display both of the artist name, it should display some words like multiple values as it is now.
  4. Now the metadata panel have a lots of fields displayed which I don't want to display, I have to unnecessary scroll down for find my wanted field I want to edit.

Now the metadata panel looks like that

But I want to transposed that field like that

Sorry but... did someone else not understand a thing or is it just me?

If I'm understanding the request, OP wants something like a spreadsheet with files in rows, metadata fields in columns that are editable, and the ability to hide those columns they don't want to see...

Maybe...

By just reading the title, one could infer something like that...
As I see it, OP just grabbed a screenshot of MP3Tag and another program and posted it as a example :slightly_smiling_face:
Why would there be another list inside the metadata pane?
Doesn't the metadata pane in vertical look similar to this?
A script like this one or this other posted by @dasota could do the job as we speak or am I getting the wrong idea?

Maybe, you could already try to have the metadata panel on the side (e.g. as a vertical pane rather than horizontal one). This would probably improve on the scrolling part.

Yes I want that. The metadata panel already display that fields which values can be edible in each row. I just need to transposed the row heading to column heading and need to customise for arrange the columns and ability to hide those columns I don't want to see.

Thank you so much for the valuable comment. Add in script you mention have some limitation. If the default installation gives you the more than power of that script I think that is much better than the script using

Horizontal view gives you more comfortability to see which fields you edits, is that fields update correctly, you just need to rearrange the column name as you file display , then the existing value of the fields and the updated values of the fields can be seen in same column one under one.
