Is there a way to limit the number of open instances of DO?

I often find I have a dozen instances open, I close most of them, and then an hour later a dozen or more.

This came up quite often. Wouldn't it be better, to have that option as a default then?

Then the question of how to make it open multiple windows would come up quite often.

Ok, i had no idea which variant is used more often. As for me, i rarely use more than one instance.

I find Close Alllisters=collapse,unique very useful.
The command collapses the tabs of all listers to the active lister and closes all, including duplicate tabs, but the active lister.

It is easy to then either close any unwanted tabs or close the active lister itself.

I use Close ALLOTHERLISTERS.

Dummie question: is Close ALLOTHERLISTERS a setting or a command etc
