Laggy scrolling in Lister

In the lister I always experience lag when scrolling through many files - under two circumstances:

  • I have selected a few files. Selecting more worsens the problem.

  • There are multiple files visible that have a label association with specific (background?)color settings.

I have a label with yellow text on red background associated with executables using

*.(exe|com|jar|bat|vbs|msi)

Maybe noteworthy that I have a pretty long label association with media files

*.(avi|mpg|mkv|mp4|flv|vob|3gp|mkv|ts|wmv|m4v|webm|mov)

Here's a 60fps screen recording which illustrates the problem as I scroll through %systen32%.
Note how smooth the scrolling is when threre are only dll files on screen. Also note how horrible it gets once I press CTRL+A.

Can I supply any more information to help pinning down the problem?
I'm on latest beta, OS is Win8.1 Pro 64bit.

//EDIT:smooth scrolling in "Prefs / File Displays / Mouse" doesn't make a difference.

We've made some code changes for the next beta (12.16.3) which fix the underlying problem.

In the meantime, if you turn off Preferences / File Display Modes / Details / Vertical for now, you should see a big improvement.
