*.pdf files bug?

I meet a problem. When a folder contain *.pdf files, Dopus will create the 0 bytes file.

:question: :question:

I meet this problem under v8.2.2.1 and v8.2.2.2.

Does this only happen when you view the files?

Which plugin are you viewing them with? PDF-ActiveX or ActiveX Document?

Does it also happen if there are only ASCII letters in the filename?

Does it happen if you drop the same files on Internet Explorer? (Probably not but worth testing just in case the problem is in Adobe Reader rather than Opus.)

Finally, if you press F5 to refresh are the entries still there?

Thanks for your reply...:slight_smile:

Just replying with 'thanks' isn't very helpful for anyone else who might have the same problem.

Can you answer some of Nudel's questions? Did you resolve the issue? What was the problem/solution?

He did answer Leo's questions tanis, but unless you're reading his reply in html format you can't see what he wrote in red (I missed them the first time around too).

Oops. :slight_smile:

Who'd of thought to look in the quote for the replies... :confused:

Hello,

@FanKoo
I very much hope this problem can soon be fixed.

@Tanis

Well, you kind of know me Tanis...
I saw the reply immediately.
It is logical and a good idea.
But alas, I like to program HTML with PHP. :smiley:

@FanKoo
I don't know what Chinese character set the filenames are.
I don't know what meaning, combinations of these characters, have in English.
I do not understand any Chinese characters, but I have a question.

Is there anything more you can tell us about this?
Do elementary character sets,
children characters, that are sounds of part of a word work ?
What characters work, if any?

Porcupine

@porcupine
The Chinese character is Chinese(Simplified), my system is window$ xp sp2 English version, but i also meet this problem at window$ xp sp2 Chinese(Simplified).

It auto create the file name use random character, but have some character as same as the origin pdf file. like this

the 0 bytes file have no extension name.
When I rename the pdf file 线代.pdf 141KB to インキ.pdf 141KB in Japanese ,problem also happen,like this

When i rename 线代.pdf 141KB to Directory opus v8.2.2.2.pdf 141KB still get problem.

Remark:the origin pdf file 线代.pdf contain Chinese content . The PDF-ActiveX and PDF-Text plugins disable

I download the pdf file Opus 82 Changes.pdf form gpsoft.com.au/files/Opus%2082%20Changes.pdf
this file do not have Chinese content,right? :slight_smile:
It didn't create the 0 bytes file.

rename the file Opus 82 Changes.pdf 247KB to Opus 82 更新.pdf 247KB in Chinese, didn't meet the problem. :slight_smile:

rename the file Opus 82 Changes.pdf 247KB to Opus 82 可愛い.pdf 247KB in Japanese, didn't meet the problem. :slight_smile:

Could you attach a zip of one of the files which does trigger the problem?

No problem~~~:)

The attached file is 线代.pdf 141KB
Thank you!

ForU.zip (127 KB)

Which PDF viewer do you have installed on your system?

Adobe Reader 7.0 won't even open files with that name, unless I need to install one of the updates to enable Unicode filename support. (I just updated to the latest version but it's insisting I reboot.)

Not sure if I've followed this discussion correctly but I just tried downloading that .pdf and all works exactly as expected for me.

Try renaming it to 线代.pdf -- the proper name was lost in the Zip for some reason.

I use Adobe Reader 7.0 to read pdf.

Maybe your system window$ xp English version didn't install Asia charter(fonts), so you can't display the files.
Go to control panel->Regional and language options->language->supplemental language support
to install files for East Asian languages:)

I've got the fonts installed and if I rename the file I can view it fine. Weird.

Adobe Reader is a bloody awful piece of software so it doesn't surprise me too much but I'd like to be able to repro what you're seeing so I can try a few things.

Do you trigger the 0 bytes files problem?

press F5 refresh maybe trigger ... :smiley:

It hasn't happened so far.

@FanKoo
Thankyou very much FanKoo !
Please keep writing.
I think all of us want this problem fixed.

@Nudel, Tanis, John Zeman, etc.

A free online translation of FanKoo's Chinese and Japanese characters can be found at World Lingo

I'm e-mailing my Japanese Brother in Law for a better interpretation and understanding of this thread.
Have you noticed how the Japanese インキ becomes English 'Ink' ?
