Hi,
I really want to like the software and am in my trial period and intended to purchase a license but I am having a problem renaming folders, files, editing tags, organising files, etc with a uac prompt that fails every time. I run a media server and have several drives. There is no rhyme or reason to why it does this. It will let me edit a file name and then two seconds later will deny permission in the same location it let me make changes two seconds prior. I can move it to another drive and edit it. Then it will lock up again.
I have checked windows firewall settings like I saw in another thread regarding this issue and even turned it off and the problem persists.
I have changed the security permissions for the drives I download files to and have allowed full access to everything and even added /users
-I have uninstalled, removed all app data and registry entries and reinstalled, same issue.
-The problem does not exist in windows explorer. In fact the only way around it seems to be opening windows explorer through the context menu and using that to rename and organize files. If I have to do that then what's the point of even having this installed? Please tell me there is an easyt fix to this.
Do you see the same when using other software (other than Explorer) to do the same thing? Permission errors come from the operating system and devices involved, not something Opus enforces itself.
They can also indicate the files are still in use by something.
Running Opus elevated (or as another user) can result in different permissions/errors to Explorer (which is never elevated).
No, I don't have the issue with any other programs and the file is not in use as I am able to perform the same action on the same file with Windows Explorer. For example using mp3 tag, it gets an error if I drag the files from opus, oddly it gets an error partly through. So it will write tags in some files and not others even though they are in the same folder with the same permissions. Doing the same from Windows Explorer with the same exact files that wouldn't work in Dopus runs fine and tags are updated without issue. There doesn't seem to be any rationale to it
No. That was just an example of how the issue occurs. I download files to various download locations for different files. Before I move them to the location they will be located permanently I sometimes need to edit the folder, file name, if it's audio I may have to add tags, etc so they are organized properly when they are moved to that final destination. It happens randomly when I try to make changes to the file in opus only like I have described before. It happens at random to files within the same folder on every drive. At this point after I download things and need to organize them or edit them prior to moving them I just open windows explorer to avoid all the error prompts from Opus but it's extremely frustrating. This happens with newly download files and files that were already on my pc. Again, there is no pattern to it. It also happens on every drive I download something to or move something to and there are many. I originally thought it was a permission issue but then why would it allow me to edit one file like in the example I used with mp3 tag and the very next file (song) is access denied using opus when the security setting are the same for every song in the folder?
I think I found what the culprit was. I have the viewer and metadata plane on. I like to have a display of my file info at quick glance on the panel. I had the play video setting turned off but I guess the album art thumbnail actually was using the file. Is there a way to show the embedded album art for example without putting the file in use when I highlight them to drag them to an application? Windows explorer is able to show that without causing conflicts with editing those files. So far since realizing it was doing that I haven't had UAC problems but if they pop back up I will do the above steps.
The only other thing I need assistance to get this absolutely perfect is actually the thing that was causing my original problem. Is there a way to change what is shown in the metadata plane? I would like it to display the info that windows displays after initializing Icaros. I deal with a lot of Hi Res audio files and it is helpful for me to have the bit depth along with the resolution and other info it does display. It is odd to me that it has the sample rate, bit rate etc but not the bit depth which is key to seeing if a file is CD Quality or Hi-Res if they are both 44kHz for example. I have edited my audio folders to show that info in tabs but would like it on that panel so its all in one easy to see location because sometimes the names expand that column out of view.
I attached pictures of what the property panel in windows looks like for me on an audio file and then one with how I set my tabs to show as I described with the particular bit depth number I want to show in the metadata panel. There are so many options in the settings but couldn't find anything to add more columns or info to that plane. Thanks for your help
Not really. The file has to be opened (briefly) to read the cover art etc., and that happens when it's selected, before it's known that the file is about to be dragged.
But extracting the cover art would not usually take that long, at least for a single file on a fast drive.
Not currently. Note that the panel is intended more for metadata editing than metadata display. We see columns and info-tips as covering the display side of things better.
I'm using pcie 4.0 m2 drives, ssds, 7200 rpm hdds. Various high quality drives depending on the data.
Covering the display side of things better? They don't display all that info though unless you manually add it and it's still spread out. It isn't available at a glance depending on the length of the title. When you are dealing with massive amounts of files and sorting, it is easier and cleaner having it all in one small place that's easy to locate and doesn't change position on a number of variables.
