Quick search stopped working

When I start to type something into quick search, it begins searching on the first one or two letters (depending on how fast I type) and then it closes the search window and displays "quick search unavailable," and as I keep typing it pops up a find feature that highlights the subsequent letters in the file names. In the past I was able to type in my entire search phrase.

On a hunch, I'd like reinstall Dopus and see if this helps. My hunch is based on the fact that I just did a Windows rollback (system restore). Can I simply install dopus over itself?

I went ahead and installed it over itself, and it still does not work right.

What folder are you in when you start typing, and what folder are you in when you get the "unavailable" message?

I can be in any folder. I've tested it in several folders. And I end up in the same folder. If memory serves me, the tree display used to show a virtual subfolder under the one I was searching, and it would indicate that this was the search results. Now I don't get that.

Before, I could type in the quicksearch window and it worked incrementally. I could type a few letters and it would select according to that. Then type a few more. Then add an asterisk to the beginning if I thought I needed on. Now, I can only type as much as I can type quickly, because if I take too long it closes up.

I looked in Preferences and don't find anything there that might control this.

Could you post a screenshot showing the Lister in the "unavailable" state?

See attached. It starts out being open, and if I don't type fast enough it changes to the state you see in the photo.

This happens while searching normal folders on my local hard disk that I was able to search before.

Please show the whole Lister.

Here it is.

If I were to uninstall and reinstall, would I lose all my settings?

If I were to uninstall and reinstall, would I lose all my settings?

I'm quite sure the answer is yes, but you could do a backup before uninstall and restore after reinstall using Settings -> Backup and Restore.

Problem solved. I removed Dopus 11.6 from my system and did a clean install of 11.5. Even though 11.6 didn't start out having the issue I reported, I decided to avoid it for now. Version 11.6 always gave me a feeling that it was not quite as stable as well as 11.5, but I can't explain why I felt that.

but you could do a backup before uninstall and restore after reinstall using Settings -> Backup and Restore.

Thanks for pointing me to that feature. As it turns out, all the settings are lost. But I was able to get them back using the Restore function.

With Dopus 12.9: quick search did stop working. The search function n the standard Windows Explorer works properly. I changed the system language form Dutch to English in Windows 10 Pro installation. Might that be the cause? What else coudl cause this? What solution might be available?

Stopped working in what sense? Does it say it is unavailable as in the posts above, or is it available but not producing results?

What are you searching for, in which folder(s)?

Windows Search is affected by language changes, since the keywords it uses are different in different languages. But it should work the same in Opus and Explorer.

Can we see a screenshot of the whole window when the problem is happening?

Above pictures shows Explorer and Dopus with the same search phrases.
Explorer shows a list of ~10 files (of ~22.000), Dopus doesn't respond to the command at all, no feedback... nothing.

Have you tried reinstalling Opus over the top of itself (don't uninstall first, just run the installer again), and then rebooting?

That did the trick! It works again. It might be worthwhile to know why it went broken...

Mine quick search stop working at all, after I remove some malware. I use Malwarebytes software and CCleaner and after that it stop working at all.
ctrl+f find work like it shoud, but quick search put the ring rolling, and it rolls and not find anything.

I had latest version of 10. and after that I buy new 12 version, but It not resolve anything.

Is it also broken in File Explorer?

Try reinstalling Opus over the top of your existing install, then rebooting. That may fix things.

If not, please talk to the makers of those programs to ask what they may have done to break Windows Search and how to fix things.

Yes, it works in explorer. I Install ver 12 over ver 10, isnt that the same thing?

I personally think that it do something about the temporary file folder or something like that. These programs clean all temp files.
DO normal (ctrl+f) search works just like i should

It's hard for us to guess how they've broken things, deleting registry settings or files that they shouldn't touch and have nothing to do with them.

If they broke something and you're paying money for them, it's their responsibility to fix things.

We don't recommend "registry cleaner" type software as it is much more likely to break something than to fix something, in our experience. (The same with "uninstaller" products.) And when they break things we end up with the support burden instead of the people who created the problem.
