RAR extract problem

Occasionally i come across RAR files that fail to extract properly from one directory to another, using the Extract To file command.

Instead of the files being extracted, they create an empty directory with filename of the file within the archive.

If I use the EXTRACT HERE command it works fine .. but then i have to move the said file across to the other lister window...

The only difference that i can find between those that work and those that dont is that they have been done on UNIX..

Is there an command i can add to the EXTRACT TO that will fix my problem ?

Great program by the way... I was a big fan back in the Amiga days

Can you provide a reasonably sized sample file so I can take a look?

I'm actually working with .rar and .zip file commands right now.

Sorry, they are all too large and unmodifiable and i dont use UNIX to try and create a new one.

What happens when you try to unrar the archive with WinRar?

Winrar works fine and the file extracts normaly.

Its no big deal i guess to just continue using winrar instead, or even just use the EXTRACT HERE command instead, then just drag and drop in the file to the destination lister window.

I just thought there might have been an option command I could add to the EXTRACT TO button commands.

Maybe i just need to stop being lazy and read up on it myself lol...

This post i think is also the same problem.. but looks like no solution

The correct command to extract a .rar or .zip archive from the Source Lister to the Destination Lister should be:

Copy Extract

You should only use the TO option when you are explicitly naming a specific different folder to copy or extract files to. In that case, the extracted objects go to the specified folder, not the folder that is listed in the Destination Lister.

Could you paste the full command you're using?

The problem might be caused by spaces in filepaths and incorrect/missing quotes in the command.

I am using the default command for Extract in FILE -> FILE COMMANDS

I dont know how to actually find the actual commands or switches as i assume its all internal

I'm confused now. You were talking about "EXTRACT HERE" and "EXTRACT TO" in the first post. Can you clarify exactly what you're doing and which things work and don't work?

"What we have here, is failure to communicate..."

I just want to (extract) unrar a .rar file with password and nothing happens.

No error message.
No asking for password.
No still copy of the .rar file (as it does for .7z files).

Any idea?

Tested with 8.2.2.5

Do you know if the RAR was created with a newer version of WinRAR set to use AES encryption? Opus probably doesn't support that at the moment.

No I don't know. Hmm - I'll try it with another tool at home. THANKS

Are you sure its a RAR archive and not a ZIP file or other with the RAR extension?
