Tooltip Modifier

Could you please add a modifier hold down for tooltips.
Personally I would make it 'Alt' and have a 0 ms delay. I hold the Alt key and can see the tooltip immediately on anything I hover over. When I'm not holding Alt then tooltips don't bother me.

Tooltip

You already have this ability when inline renaming, so could you add this same thing to the common tooltips please. Or create an argument for use with buttons or hotkeys.

Tooltip Rename

It seems I've already asked for this. Was just thinking the same thing right now, that it would be nice for tooltips to get out of my face unless I want them to be seen.

When I want extra info about a file or to remember the label on a button etc. I can simply hold down my modifier key, or push a button that toggles it.

I don't use "hover to select + single click to open" and I think very few people if any do.
Holding down Ctrl to invoke the tooltip of a selected file or folder works here, but there is a bit of a delay. One just has to be a little patient for a second or two.
Sorry, I can't use Alt to do that.

If I am reading this correctly, you are looking for a keydown that changes the hover tooltip action to similar to what we see doing Ctrl during an inline rename ?
But the inline rename by definition is already selected.

Toolbar infotips are a different story. This post is limited to files and folders.

I thank you for your insights on this. :grinning:
Good to see you are still reading the forum !

Yes. There would be no tooltips on anything at any time.
Then when I'm holding down a modifier, tooltips would pop up on anything I hover my mouse over. This would have no delay.

And I request code added for us to use it for hotkeys or something. An "argument" or whatever it would be. A function? "Toggle Tooltips". We could add that to whatever we want to use it with.

I might actually try this single click thing, since I'm already trying out the checkboxes; so I'm not in the habit of single clicking things anyway.
