I'm unable to make the .webp format work for me for thumbnails viewing. Could you assist me ? i probably messed up my configuration, but i'm honestly a newbie.

Is the WebP plugin enabled?
Make sure the files really are WebP format as well, and have the .webp extension. Websites often serve images with the wrong file extension (e.g. JPEGs with .gif extensions are fairly common, so some may make the same error with WebP).
The plugin was in fact not enabled, it now works much better.

Version 12 and 13 beta : Even when webp plug-in is selected, webp files do not show image dimensions nor preview when mouse-overed in the list view.
See the difference between a gif file and a webp file in the screenshots below. Would be nice to be fixed.
Settings > File Types. Edit the Images file type group and add the webp extension to it.
(It's there by default these days, but won't always be added to old configs.)
Ah great tip, many thanks ! Effectively, I have been a DO user since 2009 thus carying old configs for a while .... I didn't excpeted that solution, I thought webp was too young to have been fully incorporated in DO yet ...
