Windows "Other" folders are missing

Hi,

when I click on "Computer" on my desktop the windows explorer gives me a window something like this:

Hard Disk Drives (1)

Local Disk (C:)

Devices with Removable Storage (2)

DVD Drive (D:)

Other (2)

Nokia Phone Browser
Safe Run Shared Folder

DO 10 shows these two "Other" folders (from Nokia PC Suite 7.1.60.0 and Kaspersy Internet Security 11.02.556) in its folder tree (left side), but they are missing in its file display (right side). There are no "Other (2)" folders. Related to this I have two questions.

(1) Is there a way to have the same dispay (with "Nokia Phone Browser" and "Safe Run Shared Folder") on the right side as the windows explorer?
(2) Or can these two "Other" folders be blended out of the folder tree? "Show in Folder Tree: Virtual (non-filesystem) folders" unchecked doesn't help here.

Thanks in advance.

That should be fixed in Opus 10.0.0.4 (beta); the link is in my sig.

Hm, DO 10.0.0.4.4165.x64 is running here.

Hmm, I guess Opus doesn't (yet) understand those particular folders when building the Computer view.

You can turn off Preferences / Folders / Virtual Folders / Native display of 'Computer' to delegate the display of Computer to the Windows shell, so it should look exactly the same as it looks in Explorer.

Yes, this workaround works.

I will report here again when DO understands these folders.

Great! The folders are working now with DO 10.0.0.5.4171.x64 (Beta 5)!

Just one thing: In contrast to the folder tree, the file display shows a general folder icon. The red "K" KIS folder ("Safe Run Shared") icon is displayed in the folder tree (left side) only. Additionally I would like to add, that there's no context menu if I right mouse click on this general KIS folder in file view (right side).

OTOH, the Nokia PC Suite icon is OK on both sides, folder tree and file display.

Is it a quirk of the iPhone that it does not show at all, either in the tree or in the file display?

Works for me.
Works for me.
Hmm...

Well, I've never raised it before, because it does not show in Windows Explorer either. Now you have me wondering Jon.

Can you think of some Windows setting I may have overlooked?

PS: I am using Win7 Ultimate x64.

You might have to enable 'disk mode' (or something similar) for the device within iTunes, if it's anything like my iPod.

I too have the same problem (DOpus does not "see" my iPhone, but normal Windows Explorer does). See attachment for screenshot of said issue. (Win7 Ultimate x64)

This was fixed in 10.0.0.3...

Thanks Jon...

I am using 10.0.0.5, and am now seeing my iPhone in Opus.

Not an Opus problem, but a curiosity...

My wife has an iPhone too, an iP3G, while mine is an iP4, and I have both plugged into my PC using USB/iPhone connector cables. Experiment has shown that the iP3G never shows either in Opus or Windows Explorer. The iP4 shows in both. Swapping the USB ports or cables makes no difference.

Of course, the iP3G is several years old now, and apparently some change, either to hardware or software (or both) has made the iP4 visible, while the iP3G is not. Fortunately, iTunes sees both. The software version on the iP4 is 4.3.3, while the iP3g is limited to 4.2.1.

I have a 3G and it works for me
I have a 3G and it works for me
Blecchh, Jon!

I don't wish to know that!

Now I'll have to start researching why. :unamused:

Thanks though.

Actually I tell a lie, I have a 3Gs. Maybe that's the difference.

As I said, not an Opus problem, but the solution I have found is unbelievable.

While I was researching this, I transferred some pics from my iPhone4 camera roll to my PC using Picasa, and told Picasa to delete them from the camera roll. This worked fine, but the next time I plugged in my iPhone4, it could no longer be seen in Windows Explorer, nor in Opus (which is set to replace Explorer for all file system folders).

Remember, I could see my iP4, but not my wife's iP3G.

Turns out, the iP4 had pics in the camera roll, the iP3G did not.

I have now taken a pic with each phone, and voila! I can seen them both in Opus.

The research that led me to this solution also warns against storing non-iPhone pics in the camera roll, as that will prevent the iPhone from showing up in Explorer also. Who would have thought!

Thanks Jon and Leo for your input. Quirky Apple! :unamused:
